American Actor And Musician Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Known For ‘ The Cosby Show’, Dies At 54

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the beloved star of “The Cosby Show,” tragically died on July 20, 2025, while on a family vacation in Costa Rica. He was caught in a powerful ocean current near Cocles Beach and was swept out to sea. Although bystanders and the Costa Rican Red Cross quickly responded, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Warner is survived by his wife and daughter, leaving behind a significant legacy in music, poetry and acting. His sudden death has deeply affected his family, fans and colleagues, cutting short a life rich with creativity, love, and unfinished conversations.

Authorities in Costa Rica confirmed that Warner’s death was caused by asphyxia due to submersion – a result of drowning after being pulled into a strong rip current. He inhaled water instead of air, which deprived his body of oxygen. Bystanders managed to pull him from the waves, and Red Cross responders attempted resuscitation, but it was too late. Rip currents, which are fast-moving channels of water heading away from shore, are known hazards even for experienced swimmers.
