According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the use of humanoid robots in manufacturing is expected to become widespread within five years. Huang addressed a large audience in a hockey stadium during a keynote speech at the nearly $3 trillion company’s annual developer conference in San Jose, California.
Huang introduced new software tools to assist humanoid robots in navigating their environments more effectively.
In a post-speech discussion with journalists, Huang was asked about indicators that AI had become widespread. He noted that a significant sign could be the presence of humanoid robots in everyday settings, stating, “This isn’t a five-year problem; it’s just a few years away.”
Huang mentioned that the manufacturing sector would likely be the first to embrace humanoid robots, citing the industry’s clearly defined tasks that can be managed in a controlled setting. “Factories should be the first to utilize these robots because the environment is much more regulated, and the applications are very specific,” he explained.
He added, “Assessing the value of these robots is quite straightforward. The estimated cost to rent a humanoid robot is around $100,000, which I believe presents a solid economic case.”
