Israel has targeted Iranian nuclear scientists for so many years because of Iran’s nuclear developments. If they successfully find any nuclear weapon, it will lead to major damage to Israel, so they are trying to slow down Iran’s nuclear development by targeting the scientists behind the program. However, the situation has now escalated into an open conflict between Iran and Israel. As a result, Israeli scientists have found themselves in danger after an Iranian missile hit a major research institution – Weizmann Institute Science – known for its important work in various scientific fields, including life sciences and physics.
Fortunately, no one died during the missile strike at the Weizmann Institute science lab early Sunday. However, the attack caused extensive damage to multiple labs on campus and years of scientific research.
“It’s a moral of victory” for Iran, said Oren Schuldiner, he is a professor of the molecular cell biology department and the department of molecular neuroscience whose lab was destroyed in the missile strike. “They managed to harm the crown jewel of science in Israel.”
Israel took strong action against Iran by targeting several important figures recently, including nuclear scientists and top military leaders. They also attacked facilities related to nuclear weapons and missile development.
On the other side, Iran has faced accusations of attempting to harm Israeli scientists in the past. Last year, Israeli officials reported that they uncovered a plot by an Iranian spy group aiming to follow and potentially kill an Israeli scientist who worked at the Weizmann Institute. According to reports, the suspects, who were Palestinians from East Jerusalem, collected information about the scientist and even took photos of the Weizmann Institute’s exterior, but they were arrested before they could carry out their plan.
For years, Israel has engaged in a shadow war against Iran, mainly because Israel repeatedly targeted Iran’s nuclear scientists. In response, Iran set back missiles at Israel’s’ crown Jewel of science lab.
