“Lilo & Stitch” Live-Action Remake Set for Streaming Release After Box Office Success

Fans eagerly awaiting the streaming debut of Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” may not have to wait much longer. Following its impressive box office performance, which saw the film earn nearly $1 billion worldwide, the beloved reimagining is anticipated to be available on Disney+ as early as late August or early September 2025.

The film, a live-action adaptation of the cherished 2002 animated classic, premiered in late May and quickly became a global sensation, grossing over $300 million in its opening weekend. Its worldwide earnings now total an astounding $996 million, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 and the highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid in history. The movie beautifully retells the “wildly funny and touching story” of Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl, and Stitch, a fugitive alien who helps her mend her broken family.

While an official Disney+ release date has yet to be confirmed by press representatives, industry patterns suggest that major Disney films typically transition to streaming approximately three months after their theatrical release. This aligns with the projected late August or early September launch for “Lilo & Stitch.”

The film features a talented cast, including Chris Sanders reprising his iconic role as the voice of Stitch. Newcomers include Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Agudong as Nani (Lilo’s older sister and guardian), Zach Galifianakis as the mad scientist Jumba, and Billy Magnussen as the eccentric Pleakley. Courtney B. Vance portrays Cobra Bubbles, and Tia Carrere takes on the role of Mrs. Kekoa, the concerned social worker.

For those who can’t wait for the film to stream, a wealth of “Lilo & Stitch” content is already available on Disney+. This includes the original 2002 animated movie, “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch,” “Stitch! The Movie,” “Leroy & Stitch,” and “Lilo & Stitch: The Series.” Disney+ subscriptions are available in various tiers, including a basic plan with ads ($9.99/month) and a premium plan without ads ($15.99/month or $159.99/year), along with bundle options.
